Lee Hyun Il topples Shon Wan Ho to lift Men’s Singles title in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold
Korea’s in-form experienced shuttler, Lee Hyun Il clinches his second back-to-back title as he has won the Men’s Singles crown in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, on Sunday, December 12, in Korea. In the title match, Lee Hyun defeated his younger compatriot,
Shon Wan Ho to win glory.
The World Number 11 Lee Hyun, who won the last week’s Macau Open GP Gold, again proved that he is far superior to the younger shuttlers of Korea as he has thrashes Wan Ho in a straight-set final match which ended up in 43 minutes. Wan Ho failed to continue
his impressive performance and easily bowed down to his senior team-mate, who was just uncontrollable in the final match.
It was a wonderful contest for the crowd as both shuttlers from Korea were fighting for the title. Lee Hyun had to dig deep to beat his country-mate in the first game. However, it was a smooth sailing in the following set and the higher ranked Korean won
it with a good margin.
The start of the match was interesting when both shuttlers put up thrilling show as they played aggressive badminton in the opening rallies. Wan ho tried to play fast game to put his opponent under pressure but failed as his rival was quicker in anticipating
the shots. Lee Hyun remained composed throughout the opening game and remained successful in winning it with decent difference of 21-18.
In the following set, Wan Ho tried to match the speed of his higher ranked challenger but again failed to keep a good control over the pace of the rallies. Lee Hyun remained fully focused in the game and pushed Wan ho in all corners of the court.
He kept his opponent moving round in the court and missed no chance to finish the rallies with an incredible precision in his strokes. Wan Ho was lacking the impressive touch in his strokes as he failed to break his opponent’s flow in the second set.
Lee Hyun remained in wonderful control in the whole game and finished it with a reasonable score of 21-16. He finished up the title match in 43 minutes with a 21-18 and 21-16 margin on the score board.
