Korea’s Lee Hyun Il continues his phenomenal winning run as he has reached in the Men’s Singles final after trouncing China’s higher ranked player, Chen Jin in the semi-final of the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, on Saturday, December 10, in Korea.
The World Number 11 and third seed of the tournament, Lee Hyun put up superb show of top quality badminton as he utilised his extensive experience to beat the former World Champion and current World Number Five, Chen Jin, who was the top seed in the Men’s
Singles draw of the Korea Open. The Korean worked really well to oust the Chinese in three games by taking 80 minutes in the court.
Lee Hyun played flawless game in the opening set and won it with a reasonable margin. In the second set of the match, it was the Chinese who dominated the game and won it with a one-sided margin. In the deciding game, Lee Hyun worked really hard and won
the game with a decent score.
In the opening game, the Korean started his campaign in a confident way as he played composed badminton and remained quick in taking the bird early from all areas. His impressive stroke placement disturbed the flow of the Chinese, who failed to play well
in the concluding phase of the set. Lee Hyun won the first set with a margin of 21-17.
In the following set, the Chinese played different game as he became fast at the net and started to execute smashes from the rear-court area. Lee Hyun failed to dominate the rallies in this game as he committed many mistakes by hitting the bird out of the
side lines. He lost his focus and lost the set with a margin of 13-21.
In the deciding set, both men progressed closely by employing their best skills in the game. They reached at the concluding phase without managing a comfortable lead. However, it was the Korean who employed his experience and took the game with a decent
score of 21-18. The end result of this Men’s Singles semi-final match was 21-17, 13-21 and 21-18.
In the final contest, Lee Hyun will face his team-mate Shon Wan Ho, who defeated Malaysia’s Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in the other semi-final of the tournament.
