Lee Kernaghan,,, Australian of the Year????

Give me a break, a guy that sings crappy country music gets given the honor of Australian of the Year??? I thought that an award like that should go to someone that deserves it for helping people or serving the community? What about all the Volunteers that tirelessly work everyday with the homeless for nothing? What about Doctors that perform mirricles everyday, etc etc etc ... A singer??? C'mon, give me a break, Who thinks that giving Lee Kernaghan that award is ridiculous? What a joke, next we will be giving the award to Ronald Mc 'Donald.

I couldn't agree more.  It's pathetic.  There are thousands of Aussies more deserving of such an award, such as David Wallace, the brain surgeon who performed emergency surgery on my son 5 years ago and saved his life. He's an incredibly hard worker, extremely skilful, amazingly humble, caring, honest and kind.

I think I like Lee Kernaghan's personality .. he's a dinkum aussie bloke ...

BUT yes as Zuch and yourself wrote .. It is such a shame that for some reason we rarely give such recognition ( remember the lady doctor and the skin making research as the exception .. BUT did she actually get the honour?? I forget) to those who do for the nation in ways SOME doctors have..

We need more Fred Hollows ( ok so he was a Kiwi originally) and Victor Changs( born in shanghai to chinese australian parents) ...and when we have then RECOGNISE THEM

entertainers that use their high profile to promote charitable causes and raise funds for those causes are STILL better than arrogant sportsmen :D

WELL, MAYBE YOU SHOULD RESEARCH ALL THAT LEE KERNAGHAN HAS DONE.  He not only sings country music, but he has raised SO MUCH money for the outback during the drought.  He is the Living Aussie Icon.  Aussies are suppose to help their fellow man.  Well, I can tell you, LEE has gone overboard with helping desperate outback property owners during the drought.  WHAT did you do?

Lee definately deservers the award. I can't think of any other Aussie who has done as much for his fellow Aussie's as Lee.
