Lee Kiss wants change in drop goal rules – Rugby News Update
Lee Kiss, the Ireland coach, has said that the International Rugby Board should change the rule regarding the drop goal.
Speaking about the second test where Ireland lost out to a Dan Carter drop goal, he said that the rules needed a change.
"If you go for a drop goal and miss then why should you get the ball back from a missed kick?" Kiss said. "That shouldn't have been their advantage. They went through it and missed it as we were good enough to stop it.”
"It is like a tackle. If we tackled him there, trying to attempt a field goal, but we tackled him before it, we would get the ball back. But that doesn't happen. That's probably a law [the IRB] could look at.”
Ireland is currently on tour in the southern hemisphere nation for a three-match test series but they have already lost the first two matches. The first match was won convincingly by the All Blacks but it seemed that Ireland could win the second but lost
22 – 19 at the end.
They play the third and final test at the Waikato Stadium, where a sold-out crowd is expected, and Kiss will be eager to avenge the defeat of the second test. He also knows that the crowd will be completely behind the home team, and the visitors will have
to soak the pressure, if they are to run the All Blacks close like last weekend.
Last Saturday at Christchurch, Ireland got off to the perfect start, scoring a try in the 9th minute. By the 18th minute, the visitors were up by 10, but a late rally by the home team prior to half-time, left the game 10 – 9 in favour
of the Irish.
Two minutes after the break, the All Blacks scored a try and conversion giving them a 6 point lead, which was cut to half a little later. By the 68th minute, the game was even at 19 – 19 and it seemed that Ireland could take victory.
However, a Carter drop goal in the 79th minute gave the All Blacks victory by 3 points.
