Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan enter into finals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships
Malaysian Girl’s Doubles shuttlers, Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan penetrated into the final after beating China’s Xiong Rui and Ou Dongni in the semi-final of the 2011 Badminton Asia Junior Championships, in India, on Friday, July 8.
The fourth seeds, Lee Meng and Chow Mei did an incredible job by reaching the finals of the Asian Junior Championships. The Malaysian duo surprised everyone when the toppled the second seeds, Dongni and Rui, in an entertaining fight which lasted for three-sets
of 56 minutes.
The tremendous performance of Lee Meng and Chow Mei has boosted their confidence and they are expected to clinch their first title in this event. After winning the match, Chow Mei said, “We have surprised ourselves by coming this far. We were packed off
in the first round in our two previous Asian Junior meets. This is a big achievement for us.”
She did, “We did not meet this pair (Dongni-Xiong) during the team event (in the final) because China won the tie before it was our turn to play. Meng Yean and I played well today and we did not make many mistakes. We kept on pressuring them and it worked
well for us. Now, we intend to go all the way and win the title.”
In the semi-final battle against the Chinese shuttlers, Lee Meng and Chow Mei were focused throughout the first game, where they clinched a one-set advantage by winning it with a 21-17 margin, in 19 minutes.
In the second game, the Chinese lifted their level of play and were successful in levelling the match at 1-1. The Malaysians made some crucial mistakes and lost the second set with a margin of 17-21, in 20 minutes.
However, in the third game, the Malaysian occupied the driving seat and played aggressive badminton, which earned them the final game with a margin of 21-16, in 17 minutes. The concluding score of the semi-final match was 21-17, 17-21 and 21-16.
In the Girl’s Doubles final, the Malaysian duo will be up against Nuraidah Tiara Rosalia and Andini Suci Rizki of Indonesia.
