Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan eye title at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships 2011
Malaysian Girls Doubles pair of Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan, is optimistic to win the title at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships 2011, which will kick-off in India, from July 2-9, 2011.
The young pair proved their worth in March, when they clinched the Girls Singles title at the 2011 Kuala Lumpur Open. In the 2011 National Junior Circuit Grand Prix finals, the young pair won the doubles title without facing any strong resistance from their
opponents in the entire event.
Now the duo is ready to shine at the Asian Junior Championship. Meng Yean and Chow Mei know that they will face tough competition from top junior shuttlers in the event, however, they are ready to cope up with the pressure. Korea has decided not to participate
in the event and now China will be the major contestant for the title.
Meng Yean said, “The Koreans may have pulled out ... but it doesn’t make the tournament any less easier because China and Japan have very strong pairs.”
She further added, “It’s important for us to do well in this Asian Junior meet because we still have another year in the junior circuit and it will give us better ranking points.”
The coach for junior girls, Koay Kar Lin, suggested the players to get serious for performing well on the world stage. Koay Kar said, “They have improved a lot, especially this year, and they are the top pair in the junior ranks. It is time for them to get
serious and show everyone that they have what it takes to progress even further.”
Meng Yean and Chow Mei are participating in the Asian Junior Championship for the third time, as the duo contested in the last two editions. In their previous participations, they failed to progress in the event as they lost the opening round matches on
both occasions.
However, this time the Malaysian ladies have gained experience from senior shuttlers and are quite optimistic to perform well in the event.
