Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan prove their mettle at National Grand Prix Finals – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles young shuttlers, Lee Meng Yean and Chow Mei Kuan, have proved their mettle as they defeated Marylen Ng and Lai Pei Jing in Goup-A match of the National Grand Prix Finals, in Bukit Kiara, Malaysia, on Wednesday, October 12.
Meng Yean and Mei Kuan played to their full potential and showed that they are ready to make their mark in the squad of elite players.
Both ladies are just 17 year old and showed wonderful maturity in the match against the experienced opponents. They lost the opening game but bounced back in the fight to grab the remaining two sets and won the contest.
In the first game, Meng Yean and Mei Kuan played confused game and missed many chances to earn points. They played negative strokes and lost the set by a margin of 17-21.
However, in the second set, Meng Yean and Mei Kuan changed their tactics and played attacking badminton in the whole game. They showed no mercy to their opponents and won the set with an impressive 21-14 score on the board.
In the final game of this mouth-watering fight, the spirited shuttlers continued their terrific run by dictating the pace of the rallies. They kept the pace high and controlled the game at the net, which helped them in winning the final set in a convincing
fashion with a remarkable margin of 21-14.
Meng Yean and Mei Kuan won the match in three games with a 17-21, 21-14 and 21-14 score on the board.
Mei Kuan said, “Our first match was really tough because we knew that it was the one which will decide who qualifies for the semi-finals. I wasn’t able to play my real game at first and was struggling quite a bit but I’m glad we managed to come back strongly
to win.”
Meng Yean was also happy with the results as they have reserved a berth in the Women’s Doubles semi-final of the national event.
She said, “We lost to them (Pei Jin-Marylen) during the Kedah Open because we had just returned from the Asian Juniors and were not in top condition. This time we were more prepared and it was a good boost to our confidence.”
The shuttlers are ready to take bigger challenges as they are fully prepared for that now.
