Lee Radford of Hulls FC inks a three-year coaching deal with club - Rugby League
On Thursday, October 6, Lee Radford of Hull FC has announced his retirement from his on-field role to slip on the hat of assistant to Hulls’ new coach, Peter Gentle.
The player still had a year remaining on his two-year playing deal which he had signed last year and for his new role he has inked a three-year deal at the club. This will not be his first coaching experience, as he also served in a similar capacity for
the amateur club, East Hull.
While explaining his move after reigning in the coaching role, the 32-year-old player said, "This opportunity wouldn't necessarily have been there in 12 months' time and that made my decision pretty straightforward. I've had a fantastic 18-year playing career,
racking up nearly 400 games since my debut when I was a skinny 16-year-old and I've been fortunate to pick up plenty of silverware along the way. I'm really looking forward to working with Peter and I certainly think we have exciting times just around the
corner and that is something I want to be part of.”
Radford has spent most of his time at Hulls, which translates into his good affiliation with the club. He made his debut with Hulls and moved to Bradford Bulls, where he managed to have Challenge Cup and Super League titles under his belt.
He returned to his home town club in 2006 and is known for his on-field brilliance. This was one of the deciding factor for the club owners , who could foresee that with his role upgraded the prop will be able to have a huge impact on the club’s overall
demeanour.
He is not only assigned to coach to the first- team level but his role is expected to extend to the under 20’s squad for Hulls.
