Lee Trevino suggests Tiger Woods must switch back to Butch Harmon to regain top form
Lee Trevino, one of the most celebrated golfers alive, has now a precious word of advice for the former world number one Tiger Woods.
The Hall of Famer believes that Woods need to return to his former coach and mentor Butch Harmon to incarnate his glorious swing which saw him through 14-major titles in his career.
Trevino said, "I would call a realtor in Henderson, Nevada, and I'd find out where Butch lived and I'd buy the house next door, I'd go over and ring the doorbell and say, 'Hi, neighbour,' and get back with Butch. That's exactly what I would do".
Trevino was talking to the ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's Galloway & Company on Monday afternoon.
Trevino has won no fewer than six major titles in his career and is considered one of the living legends of the sport.
He believes Woods and Harmon need to bury their hatchet and reunite to continue with the blistering winning spree.
Easy as it may sound, the coach and his former pupil have now too much bad air in between, which is likely to keep them from mending their fences and reunite.
Harmon has been particularly critical of the changes Woods’ have been trying to incorporate with the help of his new coach Sean Foley.
He has time and again, expressed his disliking for the proposed changes and has warned that the alterations may prove fatal for the former number one’s career.
"I'm sure there's bad blood there, at least that's what I've heard," Trevino said. "I haven't talked to Butch in years, so I don't know how he feels with Tiger and I don't know if Tiger is too proud to ask for the help and if he asked for help if Butch would give it to him".
Harmon and Woods started off their trailblazing combination back in the year 1996.
Harmon guided Woods to his third U.S. Amateur Championship and the duo continued together till August 2002.
Woods won eight of his 14-major titles under the watchful eyes of Harmon and also pulled in the historic 15-stroke victory at the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach.
Regardless of his advice for the former world number one, Trevino still believes Woods is making substantial progress and thinks that the only problem at the moment lies in the fact that he does not believe in himself.
Trevino says that Woods is able to card brilliant rounds on the starting three days but is not able to translate his success on the final day.
Woods won the Chevron World Challenge at the closing end of the last season. Chevron title, not being a mainstream PGA Tour sanctioned title, Woods is still considered winless for the moment, despite his recent resurgence to top form.
