Lee Walker beats Robbie Williams, Reanne Evans loses to Zak Surety – Snooker news
Former World Championship quarter-finalist Lee Walker beat Robbie Williams by a frame score of 4-1, while the seven-time Ladies World Champion, Reanne Evans lost her battle to Zak Surety with a 4-2 score-line in the World Snooker Q School Event 2.
The event is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Let’s take an overview of how the matches transpired on the day.
Lee Walker 4-1 Robbie Williams
The Welshman Lee Walker, who reached the quarter-final at the Crucible Theatre back in 1997 before losing out to Alain Robidoux, produced a high quality game to see off his opponent with an overall score-line of 73 (64)-27; 72-35; 63-56; 54-63; 64-42.
Walker knocked in a magnificent break of 64 in the opening frame to have the first blood 1-0. Though it was a safety battle afterwards, Walker came on top. Robbie Walker had his chance in almost all the frames but he succumbed to his opponent’s flawless
safety skills and experience.
Williams was trailing Walker 3-0 before he managed in winning the fourth frame to bring a bit of life in the match but Walker showed no reeling effects and sealed the match in the following fifth.
Since 1997, Lee Walker has been relegated twice from the professional circuit. However, this time he is making a strong bid to gain a professional tour card for the upcoming season.
Zak Surety 4-2 Reanne Evans
Seven-time Ladies World Champion Reanne Evans, who previously registered comfortable wins over the likes of Sachin Plaha, Dean Venables and Mike Hallett, has fallen in Round 1 of the Event.
However, it was a highly impressive performance from Zak Surety, as she held her nerves to see off the Ladies legend with an overall score-line of 15-75; 17-83(69); 68-1; 64-44; 85-0; 63-55.
Though Evans stormed into the first 2-0 lead with a top break of 69 in the second frame, she lost the next four in a row. Surety did not go for big breaks but rather relied on his tactical side of the game to finish the matters with a 4-2 win.
