Lee Walker misses pro tour after close match against Simon Bedford: World Snooker Q School Event 2
Lee Walker came close to grab the tour card again for the next season but failed to make his mark as he lost to the Englishman Simon Bedford in the quarter-final encounter of the World Snooker Q School Event two at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Newbridge potter, Walker, has only one chance to make it to the professional tour if he surges to the quarter-final stage of the current event of the Q School and wins it. However, the 35-year-old received a walkover against Luca Brecel as the Belgian
withdrew from the event.
Walker went shoulder-to-shoulder with the Englishman during the match as he fought back from 2-0 behind Bedford and made it 2-2. Yorkshire’s Bedford tussled in the fifth frame but finally took it and went 3-2 up but Walker forced the game into a decider
frame before losing it 3-4 to the Englishman.
The Welshman said, “There is no pressure on me but one thing I always do when I go out on the table is try. It would be great to qualify although that is when the hard work begins in finding the money to pay for travelling around on the Main Tour. I know
if I can play ok then I have a good chance of qualifying. It was close against Simon and I played alright in the first four frames.”
The Welsh potter, Walker, will go head-to-head against the emerging teenager from Thailand, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon in the second round of the Q School Event three on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Walker has already
beaten the Thai potter 4-3 in the second event of the tournament.
Walker made a strong run in the previous two events of the Q School as he went up to the fourth round in the first event where he lost to Andrew Norman by the score line of 4-2. Norman qualified for the main tour after beating Chen Zhe 4-3 in the quarter-final.
However, Walker reached the quarter-final stage in the second event of the tournament beating Robbie Williams, Zak Surety, Ian Burns and Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon in the first four rounds respectively but lost 3-4 to Bedford in the quarter-final. He is still
left with one chance to prove himself worthy of pro tour again.
