Lee Westwood, Thongchai Jaidee, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chapchai Nirat raise $22,400 in Indonesian Masters dinner gala
Lee Westwood, Thongchai Jaidee, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Chapchai Nirat were the main celebrity guests at the Indonesian Masters charity dinner which was hosted by the Habitat for Humanity, the no-profit organization aiming to provide homes for the underprivileged
of Indonesia.
The sporting giants, with their collaboration, were able to raise up to $22, 400 for the organization through several auctions and private donations from other guests.
Jim Masrin, the Chairman of the charity organization, was more than delighted to be associated with the tournament and hoped it would lead to providing better living conditions for the poor of the country.
“It costs US$2,500 to build a proper home for a family and I’m sincerely grateful to the Indonesian Masters and the Asian Tour for this opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity as it will help us raise funds even further,” said Masrin.
World number two, Westwood, who grabbed most of the attention at the gala, sold a golf clinic worth $7,000 and one of his signed shirts, while the Asian star Thongchai Jaidee sold his putter. The guests had a chance to have a photograph with Westwood, Jaidee
, Bhullar and Nirat in return of small donations.
Habitat for Humanity was established in 1997 and has worked tirelessly to provide some kind of accommodation to almost 30,000 families in the country. The organization has expanded its network to as many as 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization
is currently engaged in many projects in countries like Indonesia, Philippines, India, China and Cambodia.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han was also present at the occasion and reiterated the tour’s promise of providing better living standards to the less privileged of Asian countries.
“The Asian Tour and our players will lend our fullest support through the Indonesian Masters and help Habitat for Humanity Indonesia with their mission and objectives,” said Han.
The $750,000 tournament is all set to tee-off from tomorrow, where Westwood would be pitched against the players from Asia to clinch the top slot. The tournament will be aired through Asian Tour’s Television platform to 400 million homes around the world.
