Lee Westwood aiming to win his third Nedbank Golf Challenge
Lee Westwood did not have the best of outings in Dubai, as he finished way below at T48 in the DP World Tour Championship. Although at the end he finished 12th in Race to Dubai standings, a below par performance at the Jumeirah Golf Club must
have been disappointing.
However, the Englishman has a chance to finish his season on a high, as he prepares for Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Lee could not have any better chance to finish the season with some positives, as he loves playing this tournament.
The Englishman is not only the defending champion at the Gary Player Country Club but it will be his third consecutive victory this year, if he is able to win it.
The world number six shot 15-under last year to secure his second consecutive Nedbank Golf Challenge. Westwood has been successfully defending some of his titles this year.
He defended his Indonesian Masters title this year in April and a victory at the Sun City would be a big boost. Westwood himself is very upbeat regarding the tournament and feels that wining this trophy is an honour.
"I'd love to be the first to win three Nedbank Golf Challenge titles in a row," said Westwood.
"You just have to look at the names on the trophy to realise how special it is. It's not the winning margin that is important to me, but it's the coming back and defending the title that is so satisfying".
The tournament organisers are happy about the fact that Lee will be in South Africa to defend his title. His presence will help them attract more sponsors and crowd.
"Defending champion Lee Westwood has become one of the greatest players in the history of this tournament, and he now has a chance to make history at Sun City this year," said Tournament Director Alastair Roper.
Although Westwood is a two-time defending champion, he will be facing a tough competition from some of his European Tour counterparts.
Justin Rose is one of the favourites for the tournament. Rose is coming off from an excellent week in Dubai, where he finished second.
