Lee Westwood all set to tee it to the top
It was never easy for Lee Westwood. At a time when the game of golf was being ruled by a new breed of golfers, ready to showcase their golfing skills, in the most effective way possible, Westwood jumped into the battlefield to reinforce that experience is
something that will always matter.
However, despite the achievements he has made so far in his career, Westwood still eyes a maiden victory when it comes to golf events played in the Gulf region.
His previous glories came in the form of two PGA Tour wins coupled with the recently obtained two victories.
Westwood has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Commercialbank Qatar Masters. He seems confident in terms of morale and performance that this time he will be able to tee it off.
38-year-old Westwood was able to reach the closest spot in the tournament back in 2010 but still yearns to win the event, which he will be participating in for the seventh consecutive time.
So what difference has Westwood to offer this time that will possibility make him stand out in the event this year? According to golf pundits, it is the eventful career he has been enjoying since the last year.
After winning the Nedbank Challenge and then the Thailand Golf Championship in December, the English golfer is all set and geared to put the golf course on fire with his masterly coated shots.
Not to mention, it has primarily been because of this consistent game play and careful control on his nerve, due to which Westwood has been able to clinch the second seed in the world rankings, with an average of 8.06.
Talking to Europeantour.com, Westwood expressed about his participation in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, saying, "It's nice when you click into that kind of gear where your mind is in the right place, you're calm, and your swing feels good and you're
on auto pilot, really".
He further added that, with the beginning of a new year, he has new hopes and expectations that he intends to fulfill.
Apart from this, Westwood is confident enough that he will be able to demonstrate his skills in a much better and effective way as compared to what he has been doing last year.
Moreover, with the assessment he has made of his game this year, he has reached to the conclusion that 2012 will definitely be a good year.
He believes that he possesses the right moves, the right attitude and the right techniques to grab every other golf tournament coming his way.
Regardless of the perfection Westwood is searching for, there is still an area where he needs to show improvement in order to further enhance his scope and potential. That is, mastering the skill of performing on the greens.
Acknowledging this loophole in his performance he says, "My putting has not been as good as I would have liked," he added. "Proof of that was at the Nedbank - a week where I putt and hole my fair share and I'm leading by seven going into the final round”.
He realises the gravity of the situation when he says that during the period of dormancy, if he is unable to master the skill of putting better, it would emerge as a problem to push him from the 10th to the 20th position.
However, once these shortcomings are overcome, Lee would have the perfect opportunity to emerge as the top seed in the game.
