Lee Westwood barely makes the cut
The stage is set for the biggest names to go head to head for one of the biggest events in golf, the British Championship Open 2012. This is the 141st Open and is being taken place at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The four-day event
which teed off from the 19th of July is going to end on the 22nd of July.
Two days have passed for the tournament and the top golfers from all over the world are fighting it out for the Claret Jug.
Half the players have missed the cut of the tournament while others have survived. Lee Westwood has also managed to make the cut.
After the first day’s bad performance, it seemed as though Westwood is going to miss the cut, but he managed to make it.
Westwood had a bad first round. Nonetheless he had a good start. He started off with two consecutive birdies, which were followed by a double bogey on the third hole.
He carded a bogey on the sixth hole and also managed two more birdies towards the end. His score was one-under par after the front nine.
The back nine was pretty pathetic for Lee Westwood, as he carded four bogeys on the thirteenth, fourteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth. His score on the back nine was four-over par and his total score climbed up to three-over par.
This second day was relatively better than his first day. On the front nine, he had no eagles, birdies, bogeys or double bogeys. In all the nine holes, he had pars. So the front nine had no effect on his total score.
On the back nine, he had a bogey and a birdie on the thirteenth and fourteenth hole, respectively. His score after two days of golf was three-over par. He barely managed to make the cut.
He had a tied sixty eighth position with fifteen other players. The 39-year-old was relieved with his performance and happy that he had made the cut at the major.
He tweeted, “Well, if it wasn't result enough to make the cut; I get a game with Tom Watson in the morning too!”
The English player would have to show an extraordinary performance in the next two days to occupy a good position in the tournament.
