Lee Westwood confident before the Open Championship
One day left for one of the greatest events in golf. The British Open Championship starts from the 19th of July and, being a four-day event, it ends on the 22nd of July. This is going to be the 141st Championship and the
venue for this auspicious event is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course, Lancashire, England.
The stage is set for some of the biggest names in golf to fight for glory for the Claret Jug. It is thought to be a one tough tournament as the weather conditions are not going to be favourable. Therefore, the result of the game is going to depend largely
on what time a player starts his game.
This has added a huge amount of pressure on the golfers. In these conditions, one golfer who is tension free and confident about his game is Lee Westwood.
The English professional golfer has been in very good form for the past few events. He has been consistent and had his luck with him throughout.
Despite his great performances in the recent events and in the majors, Westwood has no major titles to his name. In the past, he has gotten very close, but has never been able to actually win it.
Westwood has been able to manage four top-ten finishes in the last 5 majors he played. In these five tournaments, the only time he did not finish in the top-ten was the last year’s Open Championship.
The world number 3’s best performance was in the Masters Tournament 2012 and the Open Championship 2010. In both the tournaments, he was able to secure the second position.
This year Westwood is confident about his game at the Lytham and thinks that he has a good chance of actually winning it. His last few performances are really going to help him to boost his confidence and to make his game better.
In an interview he said, “I had a decent chance at the Masters and was in contention again at the US Open a few weeks ago, so I am feeling very confident going to Lytham”.
“My form has been really good in the Majors recently. I look forward to every Major I play in and I seem to be contending in all of them, other than maybe The Open last year at Royal St George’s. I look forward to every tournament in play in, but particularly
the Majors. If you are playing well, you do,” he added.
