Lee Westwood confident of overpowering Luke Donald at Race to Dubai Rankings – Golf news
World Number One golfer, Luke Donald’s mind boggling lead at the Race to Dubai Rankings have done little to scare the former World Number One and current World Number Two, Lee Westwood, who plans to take a shot at the top slot in this week’s Alfred Dunhill
Links Championship. He is currently poised at fourth place on the Race to Dubai points table and has earned almost half of what Donald has earned in the current season.
Westwood said, “He's playing here this week and Madrid next week.  He obviously thinks that the guys that have been around him are good enough to win the rest of the events that he's playing in. I feel like I can win here, China and Dubai and that will surely
give me enough money to go past him but he still has to play well.”
Donald, who started the year winning the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Arizona, later, pulled in one of the most stunning seasons of his sporting life to stay ahead of the rest of the players by miles. He topped the FedExCup Rankings on
the PGA Tour but lost the final leg of the event, The Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
Now, he is hoping to achieve the double-dip, something which has been unprecedented in history and plans to summit both the FedExCup Rankings as well as the Race to Dubai Rankings.
The duo has been locked in a fierce battle since the start of the year and both Englishmen were seen snatching the lead from each other on numerous occasions. Westwood, who broke Tiger Woods’ longest reign on top of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR)
last year, lost the accolade at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship where Martin Kaymer surged to the top.
Westwood later regained the top slot with his consecutive victories on the Asian Tour but lost it to Donald at the BMW Championship. Donald capitalised on the newly achieved stardom and has done well to stay clear from approaching competitors so far. Westwood
also revealed that he has been undergoing a slight change in his putting technique with his coach, Phil Kenyon, who is hailed as one of the putting gurus in the sport.
Westwood added, “The putting to start with is pretty good but the rhythm, we’ve been working on that, which is quite hard to do.”
Donald is currently the undisputed king of the Race to Dubai Rankings with earnings of € 3,778,199. He sits higher than second placed Rory McIlroy, as a great feat is required on Westwood’s part to claim the top slot at the end of the season.
