Lee Westwood continues his great form on the PGA Tour
The former world number one Lee Westwood started off the 2012 PGA Tour season on a high note and recorded four top-five finishes in the first six events that he played.
Thereafter, he stumbled a bit and played five events. He registered only one top-10 finish, which came at the second major event of the year, the US Open.
Then, he entered the US PGA Tour Playoffs and found his form once again. He tied for the fifth position at The Barclays, followed by a tied 13th place finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Last week, he kept the momentum going into the BMW Championship and displayed some excellent set of skills, at the Crooked Stick Golf Club.
He recorded an 18-under par tournament score and tied for the second position on the leaderboard. He finished two strokes behind the winner Rory McIlroy.
Overall, he was pleased with his performance and with the way he played to remain in contention for the top spot, till the end of the tournament.
“I was hitting good shots, I was inside Rory a lot of the day pretty much on the greens,” he said. “I got a bit unlucky at 14 with the lie in the fairway, conducive to a bit of a hook, and just turned over a little bit too much, and when I got up there,
it pitched, come out of its plug mark, had to play it where it was and made bogey”.
“Then got in between clubs at the next, between a 3-iron and a 5-wood, and then 16, I hit a great shot in, and I hit a great putt which I thought was in. And then I played the last two holes solid,” he added.
He now eyes the first PGA Tour victory of the season, entering the final stage of the Playoffs this week, the Tour Championship.
Moreover, he is confident to play his role in the Ryder Cup, scheduled at the end of this month. He also hopes to be grouped with McIlroy in the biennial event, as he believes that both of them can make up a good match.
