Lee Westwood desiring to win the Shell Houston Open
Lee Westwood is aiming to win the Shell Houston Open, scheduled from March 29 to April 1, at the Redstone Golf Club, Tournament Course, Humble, Texas.
The current world no. 3 is in the field of the PGA staged event and is hoping to be the proud winner of the tournament, by displaying leading and impressive strokes.
“I'm here to try to win. That would be great and I'd take a lot of confidence going into next week with that,” Westwood said.
He added, "I'm looking to play well and hit good shots and take the way I've been hitting shots on the range and striking putts".
The Shell Houston Open is the final tune-up event before the Masters, the first major of the year.
The field is tough and all the players will compete for the purse of $6 million and for the winner’s share of $1,080,000.
Westwood had displayed amazing performances since January, 2012. He started his season at the European Tour and finished the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on 17th position.
He exhibited his outstanding form by finishing the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy on the 12th and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the runner-up position.
After tremendous game play in the Middle East, he moved to the US and played World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
He continued his leading performance and finished on the fourth position.
Then, he again finished on the fourth place at the PGA staged The Honda Classic and tied for the 29th at World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.
“I've seen a big improvement in the three weeks since I last played so I want to take that onto the golf course and play solidly.
“I like to be competitive going into the week of a major, so that's the reason why I play the Shell Houston Open,” he further added.
He can fulfil his desires of winning the title at the Shell Houston Cup, as the field does not have Westwood’s main competitors like Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Tiger Woods.
Hence, Westwood is the hottest golfers in the field, who is also in his full form. He can record leading scores at the Redstone Golf Club and also can win the title.
