Lee Westwood disappointed with his performance at Lytham
The British Open Championship comes to an end. The biggest names in golf fought at this prestigious stage, the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The four-day event started from the 19th of July and ended on the 22nd of July.
With the end of the tournament, there emerges a champion and in this case, it was Ernie Els. After four days of magnificent golf there is only one winner, the rest are disappointed.
In the tournament many players were successful in impressing the spectators, while others failed to do so.
Lee Westwood is another player who had a disappointing tournament. On the first day, at Lytham, he scored five bogeys and a double bogey on the third hole, although he scored four birdies but those were not of much use. His score for the day was still three-over
par.
The second round was the best one for the English professional golfer. He just carded a birdie and a bogey on the day. His score after day 2 remained the same three under par.
On the third day, Westwood had five bogeys and four birdies. These made his score climb up to four-over par.
On the final day, he had five birdies and five bogeys which leveled his score on par for the day. Unfortunately for him, a double bogey on the fourth hole made his score two-over par for the day and his total score became six-over par.
The 39-year-old ended the tournament tied at the forty fifth position, with eight other players. He was 13 shots behind the leader of the tournament, Ernie Els. Els had a magnificent seven-under par after four days.
In an interview after the tournament, he said, “I didn't have much of a game coming in here, so I didn't expect too much. You need breaks at an Open and I just hit too many bad shots”.
“You'd like to be coming in ripping it, with every part of your game in good shape but you have to make do with what you've got. I feel pretty calm at majors. I've given myself a lot of chances and nearly won quite a few,” he added.
