Lee Westwood won’t be able to defend the Race to Dubai title just as he did last year at the Jumeirah golf course.
According to recent news, if Westwood fails to grab the No.1 spot at the Race to Dubai, contenders from the money list are bound to overcome his recent fame.
Westwood is currently No.1 in the world and stands at No. 4 on the money list. After the thirty seven year old grabbed the formerly Tiger Woods held stand, his carded score of 23 under par made a good number of people out there
believe that this golfer from England deserves the platinum prizes. Of course, some time after the previously stated period, Tiger Woods headed straight for his prey and made many think twice about what is going to happen.
Considering the golf rankings, Tiger Woods stands 2nd behind Westwood while Martin Kaymer is nipping at his heel in 3rd place. To round up the Top Five Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker stand close in 4th
and 5th place respectively.
With regards to the money list, Westwood stands in the 4th place with $4,873,824 having played 18 tournaments. Kaymer stand in 7th with $4,335,288 while Stricker follows Kaymer with $4,190,235 in the basket.
According to statistics, Kaymer or Graeme McDowell might surpass Westwood’s No.1 position if the Race to Dubai favours them. The situation might look like Kaymer getting to the top of the Race to Dubai leader boards with Westwood
finishing 3rd or even worse this Sunday.
In response to all of this Westwood has said he doesn’t give a monkey’s. According to the latest reports, Westwood said he doesn’t bother much about the World Rankings and considers it a topic better left for others to discuss.
The thirty seven year old stated that this is something other people would love to discuss and rests better in their symposium.
The Englishman stated that if someone comes out of nowhere and triumphs a major, that doesn’t make him number one. Westwood said that he in no way is confused about whether winning a major makes one number one or not. He said that
being a number one is more than just winning one championship; he regards the top position a result of high level of consistency and a long trek of good performances.
Westwood’s consistency although had been hit a bit when he refused to play at the events following the HSBC Champions in China to rest his calf. This happened three weeks ago with many now waiting for the Race to Dubai to see what
the golfer is about to do.
