Lee Westwood eyes another Thailand Golf Championship title
Lee Westwood is set to defend his title at the Thailand Golf Championship, when he tees off next week at the Amata Spring Country Club, on December 6, 2012.
The former world number one aims to repeat the heroics of his last year’s performance, which earned him a 20-under par score after two rounds, an Asian Tour record for 36-holes.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s website, he stated that he will be more than happy to emulate his last year’s start in the tournament.
“I probably played better the second round than I did when scoring 60 in the first. I think I was something like 20 under par for the first two rounds. As for a 59 … you never know,” he said.
According to him, Thailand is one of his favourite destinations to play golf, because of the support he receives during the tournaments he plays in the region.
“Thailand is in my top five places of anywhere in the world to visit so I’m always delighted when I can fit it into my schedule. I love the people, culture and food,” he said.
He added, “I think the beauty of the course is that it forces you to use every club in the bag and keeps you thinking”.
Westwood is currently enjoying a decent run of form, having finished tied for the sixth position at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions earlier this month.
Moreover, he also won the 2012 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters for the second time in a row, which speaks of his ability to successfully defend his title on the Asian Tour.
In the meantime, he also realizes the toughness of the competition at this year’s edition of the tournament, which is ready to showcase a number of top-notch players in Bangkok.
The 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, who finished tied for the third position last week at the DP World Tour Championship, has also confirmed to participate in the event next week.
