Lee Westwood falsifies statements regarding rift with Rory McIlroy
When Rory McIlroy parted ways with the management, with whom Lee Westwood has been associated for last 20 years, a little spat broke out between the two over Twitter. Things, however, seem to have normalised between the two since then.
Westwood recently denied that there is any rift between the two Ryder Cuppers. He is even open to partnering him in Chicago.
Lee has said that they are still friends. The two of them have been playing together in the FedEx Cup playoffs and they were seen talking to each other many times.
'We were talking about it as we were going around Crooked Stick. I said to him "have you had any thoughts about who you are playing with a Medinah? Because if nobody else wants to play with you and you're desperate, I really don`t mind filling in."
Both of them were in a pleasant mood at Crooked Stick, they were laughing and having a good time together.
Rory has been in sublime form recently. He won the PGA Championship and then, his two victories in the playoffs have really set the tone.
Lee added, 'There is nothing between us personally that would get in the way. Who wouldn`t want to play with Rory when he's in this nick. I'd love to. It'd be good. In fact, it would probably be way better than good, particularly in the four balls. We'd
make a ton of birdies'.
Westwood knows that Rory’s decision to leave the management company was in a personal capacity and more than that, it was a business oriented decision.
Westwood repeatedly said that there was no grudge against Rory – the latter’s decision to leave the company had nothing to do with him.
It would be a very interesting pairing, as both of them have a very similar playing style, so it should not be a problem if Jose Maria Olazabal decides to pair the two of them together in Illinois.
Good news for the Europeans is that Martin Kaymer and Nicolas Colsaerts have hit their stride in the BMW Italian and both of them will fly to USA with full confidence in themselves.
