Lee Westwood holding strong at the BMW Championship
Things are finally starting to look better for the Englishman, Lee Westwood but is it too late as the season is about to be over?
There is a famous saying that it is never too late, and maybe Westwood is following that saying. Recently, he has finally put up a string of good performances.
Since the playoffs, Lee has been playing well. Whether it is the $10 million factor or not, it is yet to be seen.
However, a T5 finish at The Barclays, and T13 at the Deutsche Bank show signs of improvement.
At the BMW Championship, Lee is showing the sort of form that took him to the top 3 in world rankings. In the second round, he shot a magnificent 65, with six birdies and one eagle. However, he did strike a bogey as well, but overall 65 was a brilliant score.
Currently, Lee is at T5 at the Crooked Stick Golf Club, just two strokes behind the leader Vijay Singh. A couple of more rounds like the one on Friday and one never knows, they might see a surprise at the top of the leaderboard.
“When it started to cloud over a little bit with five, six holes to go, I was like, ‘I hope they got the forecast right and it’s coming in a bit later,’”. Westwood said. “It cooled it down and the English like it when the clouds come in”.
Lee’s highlight of the day was his sublime putting.
“I was not driving it well on the back nine, but I was still hitting good putts and when they were not going in, I was misreading them. But they are starting to start off on line, which has not been happening all year,” said the Englishman.
The Crooked Stick Club is a long hitter’s paradise and the Englishman does make the ball travel long, this is one of the reasons for his success so far.
The rain has also softened up the greens, which enable the players to hit directly at the pin, as the ball will stop soon after hitting the green.
Whether Lee Westwood pulls of a victory or not, such form is a good sign for him, at least he would feel better.
