Lee Westwood hopes to go one better at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in 2013
Lee Westwood of England has been added to the published field of the 2013 Omega Dubai Desert Classic, slated to start from January 31, 2013.
The tournament will be played at the prestigious Emirates Golf Club, which is known as one of the most beautiful golf clubs in Asia.
The event is noted for attracting some of the biggest stars in the world of golf. This season too, the tournament will feature a number of top-notch players, contending against each other for US$2.5 million prize fund.
Since his first appearance in the tournament in 1994, Westwood has recorded three second-place finishes.
This year, the world number seven is hoping to go one better, when he will tee off at the Majlis Course next month.
Last year, he missed out on a chance of making it into the sudden-death playoffs, after his 20-foot chip shot slid past the cup on the final hole.
Talking to the media while making his confirmation to play in the event, he said that he always enjoyed his experience of participating in the tournament.
Moreover, he holds a strong track record in the tournament, which can help him secure his first victory in the event this season.
“I have always enjoyed playing in this tournament. It’s a big event which attracts some of the world’s leading players each year. Hopefully, I will be able to get the job done this time around,” he said.
“I know the (Majlis) course well, and it’s a good golf course. They set it up great. I know my game is good enough to win when I play well enough. That's what I try to do. After that it's out of your hands. All I can do is keep getting in contention. The
plan is the same: Just go out and enjoy,” he added.
Westwood is regarded as one of the most successful players the world of golf has ever produced.
So far in his career, he has won a total of 39 professional events, including victories on six different tours. That is the reason behind his name listed among few players who have tasted success in almost every big continent in the world.
