Lee Westwood not scared of the Masters – Golf News
English golfer, Lee Westwood stated that he now no longer has fear of the upcoming major championship, The Masters. This confidence came not after immense practice or a good finish, but a distressing trip to Georgia. The World Number two’s private jet had
to make an emergency landing, as Westwood flew from the Houston Open to Augusta.
The pilot was forced to make the landing after smoke filled the cabin of the plane. Everyone in the plane safely made it to the ground without any problems. Surely, with such a nerve wrecking trip, Westwood had never been happier to land in Georgia.
When asked about his flight, the World Number two said that he sure was shaky for a few minutes. The Englishman, despite being an amazing player, has had tough luck with major championships. Westwood was the runner up in not only the Masters last year, but
also the US Open. With his close finishes last year, Westwood is now hoping to do well in the upcoming event. As for the practice, he is not up to the mark he wants himself to be at just yet.
"It wasn't very good last week but I spent an hour and a half on the putting green with my dad and sorted quite a few things out," said Westwood. "Feels and looks a lot better, as well. I'm getting quite confident now."
Short game and putting is very crucial at the Augusta Nation Golf Club, as this is one of the main reasons Phil Mickelson has been so good at the Masters. Mickelson, who was victorious in the Masters last year, seems to be Westwood’s biggest threat. Mickelson
has already gotten a confidence booster by winning the Shell Houston Open last week. Knowing confidence alone is not everything Mickelson is not wasting any time.
The World Number three, Mickelson arrived in Georgia on Sunday and was out teeing off the next day. Westwood will be appearing in the Masters for the twelfth time and hopefully he has learned the strategies and tactics of the Augusta National by now.
