Lee Westwood returns to the field of the Players Championship – Golf News
Lee Westwood has returned to the published field of the Players Championship, slated to start from May 10 to 13, 2012 after missing the 2011 edition of the tournament.
Westwood last participated in the event in 2010 when he held the 54-hole lead in the tournament prior to the faltering performance in the final round.
Westwood had to sign his scorecard with a 74 that forced him to slip down the leaderboard to tie for the fourth position.
In all the appearances he made in the event, he has recorded a total of three top-10 finishes including the best that came in 2010.
This year, the PGA Tour season has witnessed him display impressive performances in each of the tournament he plays.
In six appearances, he has succeeded in making four top-five finishes including the tied for the third spot in the Masters Tournament.
It was his seventh top-10 finish in the major championship since 2008. Therefore, he is enjoying his form this year and is ready to register a win on the PGA Tour at any time.
Following the appearance in the Masters, he moved to Indonesia to play the Asian Tour’s Indonesian Masters where he successfully defended his title.
He then returned to the United States and participated in the Wells Fargo Championship where he tied for the fifth position.
He was impressive in the final round, as he carded a six-under par 66 to make a huge charge on the leaderboard.
“Of course it’s put me in good spirits for next week,” said Westwood after a stunner in the Wells Fargo Championship. “I’m playing really solidly, but there is still a lot of improvement to be made in my putting”.
Therefore, he is now being considered among the hot favourites to win the tournament at TPC Sawgrass.
He is now considering bringing some minor changes to his putting, as he still believes that there were still some mistakes that he made while making the putts at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
According to him, little changes in the technique will help him improve his positions in the upcoming events.
