Lee Westwood set to defend the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters title – Golf News
Lee Westwood is set to defend his title at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters, presented by PNTS, scheduled at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club from April 19 to 22, 2012.
Westwood is currently enjoying his great form, as he finished tied for the third place in the first major event of the year, the Masters Tournament.
In the final round, he carded a four-under par 68 to finish four strokes behind leaders, Louis Oosthuizen and Bubba Watson, who were forced to enter the playoffs to decide the winner.
According to Westwood, he was really disappointed, especially, after playing so well throughout the tournament. He was aiming for the first major title victory of his career at the Augusta National Golf Club.
However, luck was again playing against him and he had to remain winless in the major event.
He believes that the putter was the major reason he failed to equal the score of the leaders in the final round.
Throughout the tournament, he looked impressive in all the fields of the game except the putter. He missed some really easy putts that cost him a win in the tournament.
“Yeah, the story of the week is you have got to putt well to win the Masters, and I haven't putted well,” the word number three said. “Came out and missed a two-footer on the third inexplicably, and that is not the kind of thing that will give you confidence
for the rest of the round”.
"So I didn't really make that many putts. The longest I made was a 10 foot on 18. I made a good one at the right time, but that's not really good enough," he added.
This was his sixth top-three finish in the last four years while playing the major events. He believes that he will soon achieve the goal he has set for himself in terms of the major win.
For this purpose, he needs to perform well in other tournaments too, starting from the defence of his title at the Indonesian Masters.
Last year, he earned the number one spot after registering a win in the Indonesian Masters that did not last long.
However, it is a place that means a great deal to him and he will be difficult to beat this year too because of his great form in the recent times.
