Lee Westwood tired of criticism about his ranking – Golf update
The World Number one, Lee Westwood, is sick of being questioned about majors all the time. Winning the Indonesian Masters Last Sunday, Westwood was successful in dethroning Martin Kaymer and regaining his number one rank again. The player previously replaced
Tiger Woods as the number one player on October 31st 2010 but was surpassed by Kaymer in February this year.
The Englishman is convinced that he will surely win a major this year but he is also tired of his rank being questioned because of his lack of a major win. Westwood is an amazing player and has achieved great things and is the only player to reach the top
rank without winning a major championship. Lee supporters believe that he should not be criticized because Westwood has not won a major but has consistently come close to winning majors.
The media, especially the United State media, has targeted the number one player even since last November. Now the critics have an even stronger argument seeing how Kaymer had won a major, the US PGA Championship last August.
Playing in Indonesia, Westwood showed some amazing golf as he maintained his lead in the last rounds of the tournament. Even after Westwood had won, he couldn’t celebrate until the results of the Heritage Tournament taking place in United States were announced.
Had World Number three Luke Donald won the tournament, Westwood would be number two right now.
"The thing that gets to me is the amount of times I have to answer the same old question about being No 1 and not having won any majors. It gets on my nerves," Westwood insisted “This might be the very last time I answer this question - it (his answer in
the future) could well be 'no
comment'. The world rankings and the Major championships are two completely separate things.”
Westwood’s success is all thanks to the player’s amazing consistency and high finishes in the past few years have calculated up to number one rank in the world. Golf Writers in the United States and Sir Nick Faldo have really inquired about the ranking system
recently. Faldo, who is an English six-time major winner, and ex World Number one and TV analyst, is really curious as to how Westwood and Donald, who have not won majors either, were up for the number one slot.
