Lee Westwood wins Indonesian Masters and all set for Ballantine’s Championship - Golf News
The world number one, Lee Westwood, enjoyed his great victory yesterday at the Indonesian Masters. After his victory, he regained his number one ranking in the world once again. He will now be heading to Korea where the Ballantine’s Championship will take place.
Westwood, from England reclaimed his number one ranking, which was earlier held by Martin Kaymer of Germany. The Englishman was the favourite to win in Indonesia as he proved himself by lifting the championship. This victory was a great one for the European Tour member ahead of the Ballantine’s Championship.
Once again, Westwood will be the tournament favourite to win in Korea. Now that he is once again the number one ranked golf in the world, expectations from him will be much higher. The field in Korea will has attracted the top ranked players of the world. The 38-year-old will have to play well to win another European Tour event.
Winning the Indonesian Masters was a perfect gift for him on his birthday. He loves the playing conditions in Asia and enjoyed playing on the final round. He now has a total of 34 victories playing as a professional.
This will be only the second time that Westwood will be participating in Ballantine Championship. It will be a great chance for the world number one to win consecutive tournaments within a couple of days. The event will be hosted by the Blackstone Golf Club in Seoul.
Other than Westwood, American Dustin Johnson, Ernie Els from South Africa, England’s Ian Poulter, will be among the notable players. All these three notable top ranked players will certainly poise a great threat and a challenge to Westwood. The Englishman Westwood has another chance to further gain points and strengthen his grip on the number one ranking.
Westwood about playing in Korea said, “Korea has really put itself on the world golf map these past few years with the performances of its top players and the facilities there are second to none, so it has all the makings of a great week. I’ve never been to Seoul before and it’s always nice to experience new places and the courses in Asia are normally good, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Lee will also be the top ranked player of the tournament. He was delighted that he regained his honourable number one ranking. Last year, he overtook the ranking by Tiger Woods in October.
Johnson, who holds the 12th golf ranking in the world, will make his debut appearance in this tournament. This is very rare that he will be playing outside his country. He will be hoping to improve on his foreign win record.
This is the best field so far in the history of Ballantine Championship. The event will surely produce some fireworks as these top players battle it out on the course. Total prize money sanctioned for the four-day event is €2,205,000. All these players will be hoping to grab the winner’s share.
