Lee Williams tests his skills in Australian side Mackay Cutter – Rugby news
Lee Williams, the Welsh international rugby league player, who fills in the centre or wing position, has left for Australia to play for the Queensland Cup side Mackay Cutters on Monday, December 19.
Williams previously played for the South Wales Scorpions in the Championship one and Celtic Crusaders in Super League. In 2008, while still with Crusaders, Williams made his international debut playing for the Welsh side. His rugby league journey also took
him to the European Cup 2009, which will be remembered for his one try scored.
It appears that Williams’ rugby career is still in the experimentation phase. So far, he has played for Super League and Championship side and now he is on the road to test his skills in the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) side. This is going to be
a very fruitful move for his career because this way versatility will be added to his playing, which only comes by adding variety to one’s profile.
Another important move that is going to benefit his career trajectory is that the player is not confining himself to league games alone. He is also keen on playing the union games, which is apparent from the fact that just before moving to the land down
under, the player participated in the Welsh Premiership Neath rugby union side.
While talking about Mackay Cutters, which is a level lower than the NRL, Williams said, “It will be a great experience and a good opportunity for me. I know that the Rugby League will be tough going out there but I'm sure that it will all go well for me.”
In Australia, the Welsh player will reunite with a host of already familiar faces, the including Anthony Seibold, the Celtic Crusaders assistant South Wales Scorpions head coach. He will also play alongside Neil Budworth of Crusaders and former Scorpions
Andrew g*y and Liam Roach. They have also played with the 23-year-old at Wales.
While talking about catching up with his ex-playmates, he said that he is looking forward to playing with them again. He further added that he is all set to experience playing with new faces, where he will meet his former South Wales’ coach after almost
a year.
It will be interesting to see how well Williams will exhibit his on-field brilliance with Cutters in the land down under.
