Lee Yong Dae and Sung Hyun Ko enter into Men’s Doubles final of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Korea’s Lee Yong Dae and Sung Hyun Ko booked a podium berth as they entered into the Men’s Doubles final after beating Thailand’s Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit in the semi-final of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Canada, on Saturday, July 23.
Lee Yong and Sung Hyun, who are the fifth seeds in the Men’s Doubles draw of the tournament, proved too strong for their Thai opponents, who failed to stop the winning run of the Koreans. The Korean duo finished-off the semi-final contest in straight-sets
by taking only 30 minutes.
Lee Yong and Sung Hyun started the game by playing fast badminton against their spirited opponents, who were also putting up a wonderful show of attacking tactics. The score remained tied as both pairs were playing positively, until the final phase of the
set.
The cracking sounds of the powerful smashes coupled with the net killings made the fight more entertaining. At the ending points of the first game, the Koreans played better badminton at the net and won the set by a close score of 21-19, in 17 minutes.
In the following set of the match, Lee Yong and Sung Hyun played terrific badminton as they progressed in the game with a wonderful pace and showed no mercy to their confused challengers, who were not playing a fast game. The Korean pair was leading the
game with a superb margin of 11-4 in the opening half.
After the break, Lee Yong and Sung Hyun progressed in the same manner, as they played planned badminton in the whole set. Issara and Jongjit failed to play at the speed of their rivals and committed many errors which helped the Koreans to win the battle
with the score of 21-10, in just 13 minutes. The ending score of this semi-final battle was 21-19 and 21-10.
In the Men’s Doubles final, Lee Yong and Sung Hyun will be up against China’s Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu, who defeated Germany’s Ingo Kindervater and Johannes Schoettler in the semi-final of the event.
