Leeds Carnegie’s Danny Paul urges team to cut out mistakes
Leeds Carnegie forward Danny Paul has urged his team to cut out the mistakes and to improve their performances, starting with their crucial Aviva Premiership fixture against Exeter Chiefs on Saturday 20 November.
Leeds are at the bottom of the Aviva Premiership and have only managed to pick up two losing bonus points so far this season.
In contrast, one of their relegation rivals Exeter have made a strong start to the season and are on 14 points, proving that their promotion to the league at the end of last season was no fluke.
Paul is convinced that if Leeds cut out some of their basic errors, they will start winning games. "It's about performing for 80 minutes plus and that's what we need to produce. We need to prove we're good enough for the whole game. It's frustrating, because
it's very little errors that are costing us," Paul told BBC Radio Leeds.
The Leeds back-row forward admitted that his side had to improve or they would continue to be punished. "We make one little mistake and we get punished. That's what happens at this level. At times we are looking good and we getting on the front foot and
attacking.
"But then we to get to their 22 and it seems a switch just goes off, we make one little mistake and then they clear the ball and we are back on our 22. That's the harsh reality of what we're facing. We're proving in patches we're good enough, but it's only
in patches."
Leeds have made their worst start ever to a Premiership season including the 2005-06 season when they were relegated from the division.
A bonus point win against Exeter would move Leeds off the foot of the table and would peg back their rivals who have started the season strongly.
Leeds knows that they are in danger of falling too far behind in the table to make up ground on the other teams, even at this early stage in the season.
