Leeds Rhinos announces Danny Buderus’ departure - Rugby League News
On October 1, Leeds Rhinos confirmed the exit of Danny Buderus at the end of the running regular season. He will make his final appearance, on Saturday in the Grand Final of Super League 2011, scheduled to be staged in Old Trafford.
The former Australian player will be returning his hometown National Rugby League (NRL) side, the Newscastle Knights, on a 12-month contract under their coach, Wayne Bennett, after a release from Leeds’ contract was confirmed today. Leeds has given the player
some flexibility after he still had a year more on contract with the squad.
Burdeus could not hope for a better exit from Super League as he played in a 26-24 win over the league-toppers, Warrington Wolves, on Friday night that confirmed Rhinos’ berth for the Grand Final showdown.
The Rhinos will clash against either St. Helens or Wigan Warriors in the title decider at Old Trafford.
While speaking about his stay at Leeds the former Knights’ player said,
“I've got to give thanks to the Rhinos for their patience and for allowing me to finish off my career at my hometown club. They've wished me well which is great. To go home with an appearance (in the grand final) at Old Trafford is a dream script.I've enjoyed
everything about the Rhinos and my English experience and to finish on this note will put me in good stead for the next couple of years of my career.”
Buderus is confident about his team’s potential and form which boasts a long history of success in Super League. This will be Rhinos’ seventh time out of a total of ten attempts to reach a Grand final berth in Super League.
The team is in full form and their confidence has been improved further with their crucial win against the league toppers and favourite Super League franchise of this season, in the semi-final clash.
Buderus, who joined Rhinos in 2009, is happy that things have worked out between Leeds and his former club, Newscastle, for which he is grateful to Paul Caddick and Gary Hetherington.
