Leeds Rhinos beat Castleford Tigers 56-0 in Super League encounter
The Leeds Rhinos bagged their fifth consecutive Super League massive victory of 56-nil against the Castleford Tigers, on August12, at Headingley Carnegie.
This was only five days after they had confirmed their spot for the final showdown at Wembley by knocking out Tigers from realising their Challenge Cup dream.
This win of Leeds was the second of its kind against Tigers, but only much bigger. Five days ago, Leeds struggled to snatch victory of 10-8 from Tigers, at Doncaster by scoring the extra time golden point, to put an end to Tigers’ dream of bagging the Challenge
Cup after 19 years.
During the first quarter of the game, either side failed to make any contributions to the scoreboard. Despite Leeds’ constant efforts to open the scores, their efforts remained abortive.
Ryan Hall of Leeds almost scored a try but it was turned down after a video review that revealed that he had made a forward pass.
However, the silence over the scoreboard was broken during the 17th minute when the inaugural try of the match was scored by Jamie Jones-Buchanan of Leeds. This try was successfully converted by the Kevin Sinfield which made score break-up of
6-0 putting the Leeds in a leading position.
Tigers were playing without Rani Chase and were not in their best form, as they were not responding, and there was another one coming only six minutes apart.
Jones-Buchanan set up the field for the Rhinos second try as he sprinted down the length of the field and made a pass to Ryan Hall, who successfully touched down the line during the 23rd minute of the game.
The try was converted successfully yet again by Sinfield, only to convert another try which was made by Kallum Watkins to make it 18-0 on the scoreboard.
Castleford were trying to fight back but their attempts were not successful. Danny Orr, Tigers’ skipper attempted to hit between the posts but it was turned down.
The scorecards read 20-0 at the end of the first half of the game as a goal was scored by Sinfield to widen the gap further.
The second half of the game took off with the try from Brent Web which was converted by Sinfield again. This was closely followed by Ben Jones-Bishop grounding the ball past the touchline and then Ali Lauitiiti scored his first try of the game, during the
49th minute that were converted by Sinfield again.
Rob Burrow of Leeds displayed the two power-packed minutes, which hiked up the score even further as he tried and converted twice.
During the 70th minute, the second last try of the clash came from Danny McGuire and a try by Brent Webb concluded the scores with 56-0, Leeds’ second win against Castleford in less than a weeks’ time.
