Leeds Rhinos reach Final of Super League - Rugby
Leeds Rhinos have clinched a Grand Final berth after claiming a 26-24 victory over the league toppers, Warrington Wolves, in the qualifying semi-final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, on Friday, September 30.
With this win, Rhinos have confirmed a Final spot for themselves against expectations, as their opponents in Fridy’s clash were this season’s favourites, with highest total scored during the regular season. However, despite the opponents’ tall stature, Leeds
captain, Kevin Sinfield, did not lose faith in his squad. He also believes that his outfit has the potential to walk away with the Super League title this year.
This is the fourth time Rhinos have reached the final match in five years. Their successful history within the Super League has further added to their confidence for the title decider encounter at Old Trafford.
Leeds were all set to clash against the table toppers as they followed their skipper, Kevin Sinfield, into the semi-final with the intention of taking a lead right from the kick-off of the clash.
According to the game plan laid down by their captain, Rhinos scored within the first five minutes of the game, with a try initiated by Carl Ablett, which was successfully converted by Sinfield.
Both sides had scored four tries each and the game seemed level for either sides. At a 24-24 deadlock, Rhinos skipper stole the show with a penalty kick booted within the extra time granted at the end of the regular time.
With the win Leeds has officially become the first club to march into the Final show down after being on the fifth position within the league hierarchy. After finishing the regular season 13 points behind the top of the league table, Rhinos are looking for
their fourth final success in five years.
Leeds’ opponents for the final clash will be the either St. Helens or Wigan Warriors. Best of the two will meet Leeds next Saturday, in the title-decider clash.
