Leeds Rhinos snap three-match losing streak by claim their first win over Hull FC - Rugby
Leeds Rhinos have clinched their first victory of 20-0 over Hull FC in the Engage Super League, on Friday, July 15. With this they have put an end to their recent chain of Super Rugby League losses under their coach, Brian McDermott, who has initiated his
first season with Leeds.
Veteran players, Brent Webb and Kylie Leuluai, were missing from the Rhinos squad on account of injuries. There was some good news though as their skipper, Craig Fitzgibbon, returned after missing three games due to a shoulder injury.
With the recent losses faced by Rhinos against Catalan Dragons, Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls, Leeds had slipped down to eighth spot in the Engage Super League Table. The pressure on Rhinos was mounting, especially after they missed out on the play-offs
for the very first time since their inception in 1998.
On the contrary, Hull FC was hoping to move up to the seventh spot in the League tables after bagging four out of five fixtures. With the defeat against Leeds, Hull will continue to sit on eighth place.
During the match, Rhinos got their first try from Ryan Hall after 13 minutes. It was followed up by tries coming in from Ben Jones-Bishop and Danny McGuire. Taking the lead in the initial quarter of the game against Hull FC, Leeds cantered to their non-rebutted
victory over Hulls which helped in shedding the load from McDermott’s shoulders.
For Leeds, their skipper, Kevin Sinfield, played a significant role during the match by setting up tries in each half of the game. Also, he contributed the only four goals of the game, which made him the star of the game. Just before the scores were concluded,
Sinfield scored his penalty kick during the 68th minute of the game.
During the clash, Hulls failed to exhibit their attacking side as they were busy in defending their goal. Despite the strong defence offered from Hulls, the overall performance was alarmingly weak as they had let the opponents go unopposed. It was an embarrassing
defeat with no contribution at all to the scoreboard by the side and the squad will need to pick it up if they wish to move further up the table.
