Leeds United extends George McCartney loan deal
Leeds United has extended Sunderland defender George McCartney's loan deal by another month.
The versatile defender joined Leeds back in September on an initial four-week loan but has stayed with the club ever since after impressing Leeds manager Simon Grayson.
"We were keen for George to stay with us for a longer period and I'd like to thank Steve Bruce at Sunderland
for agreeing to that," said Grayson.
McCartney has been a key figure during his time at Leeds so far. He has a number of qualities that have kept him in the side and mean he will stay there for as long as
he is a Leeds United player.
An important player
McCartney's biggest asset has to be the fact that he's a very versatile defender. His best position is down the left bombing forward as a full back. However, he can just
as easily switch flanks and do the same role down the right.
His positional awareness is superb and this means he can play in the central defensive positions. He is not the biggest defender in the world but this positioning allows
McCartney to get into the best positions to throw in tackles and challenges against attacking opponents.
McCartney's start against Scunthorpe United over the weekend was his seventh in a row for the club. This proves he is consistent and popular within the team. His game seems
to be improving with age as he's now 29 years old.
This will be beneficial to Sunderland because the player will go back to his parent club with a refreshed frame of mind and the confidence to play well in a Premier League
team.
"I do feel there is a lot to come from George and the more games he
plays the more people will see," added Grayson.
Betting advice
Back Leeds to win all the time that McCartney is in the side. He drastically improves the Leeds defence at the back through his organised skill and will set-up a lot of
chances for attacking players to score when he gets forward.
