Leeds coach Brian McDermott happy after massive win against Tigers
Brain McDermott, Rhino Leeds’ coach was pleased with his side for clinching a massive win of 56-0 over the Castleford Tigers, on Friday, August 12 at Headingly Carnegie.
The results could not have been better, as Rhinos sustained their winning streak cementing this one as their fifth in a row amongst the Super League encounters. However, this is also the second win over the Castleford, as they were knocked out of the Carnegie
Challenge Cup 2011, at their semi-final showdown, last Sunday.
While speaking about the his outfit’s struggle to retain its position within the Super League ladder, McDermott shared that his squad has outperformed during the clash and labelled it was Leeds first time reach up to its maximum potential.
He also acknowledged that his outfit has also let go off some points in the initial spell of the season but this match was definitely different as the Leeds looked thirsty for more scores in the second-half, as if the score break-up was 0-0.
According to him the biggest plus of the Friday night’s game was that none of his players on board was injured, which is huge as the team still has to play the final showdown of Carnegie Challenge Cup, on August 27, at Wembley.
When asked about the possibility of him putting some of his players to rest, he replied, “We haven't got the largest squad and we've got to be careful with what we do. Wembley is massive for us but the league is also important.”
When McDermott was inquired about his input on the possibility of finishing off within the top four spots of the League’s ladder, he replied that that he had stop looking at the league ratings almost eight to nine rounds ago, because all that matters to
him now, is how well his outfit performs, which has become the foremost priority for him.
However, the post-match reaction by the Tigers’ coach, Terry Matterson was, “Emotionally, after last week, we were knackered. After going behind following an absolutely diabolical error from Richard Owen, heads went down and confidence eroded. We were spent,
in all areas, and we need to regroup for the remaining games to try and get in the top eight.”
This match had really put Leeds in a strong position as they are inching closer to their Challenge Cup dream that too backed by two consecutive wins against the Tigers in a matter of one week.
The Tigers are just a spot behind the Leeds within the league hierarchy and are aspiring to finish off sustaining themselves within the top eight berth of the League listings.
