Leeds’ coach Brian McDermott says that history counts for nothing - Rugby League
While talking to the media reporters on Thursday, October 6, about the Grand Final clash against St. Helens, Leeds Rhinos’ head coach, Brian McDermott, said that for him history does not matter in Finals because victory all depends on how well the game is
played on the day.
Leeds are frequent visitors to the Grand Final berth and so is the case with their contenders for Saturday’s clash at Old Trafford. Saints have reached the berth for the sixth successive time, with a continuous run of four defeats. Three out of four times,
they have been beaten out by Leeds.
Meanwhile, Leeds’ records reveal that this season is going to be their seventh visit to the final showdown since 1998, out of which, there are four Grand Final triumphs, with the most recent three wins all against Saints.
This should be the cause of concern for Saints because so far their success rate against the opponents is nil. However, Rhinos’ coach sidelines their winning streak by saying that it all narrows down to the fact that how well a team performs on that particular
day rest is all insignificant detail.
While talking about their Grand Final against Saints, McDermott said, "History counts for nothing come kick off, it is all about what you do on the day. However, the players who have played at Old Trafford before have been able to help with our preparations
especially for guys like Ben Jones-Bishop, Weller Hauraki, Chris Clarkson, Zak Hardaker and Brett Delaney, appearing there for the first time. The start is always important but especially so in games like this. We talked about it last week at Warrington and
we managed to start well with Carl Ablett scoring early on.”
The coach further went on and said that he is glad that they have Saints as opponents in the final because both teams have “high-profile players”, which fuels their game by generating big headlines.
Nothing can be predicted about the final duel, as both teams have bested out the rest and are equally hungry for Grand Final glory.
