Leelu, popular for the Hardings Catering, Brighton Handicap
An excruciatingly modest line-up of sixteen three-year-old and above runners have gathered for the Class 6 Hardings Catering, Brighton Handicap on Tuesday, 9th October, 2012 at Brighton over five furlongs and 213 yards. Their sincere efforts over
the track distance can get them the £1,617 prize money.
The only progressive entry in the field today is the six-year-old bay mare, Leelu. She has been racing since 2008, and has accumulated experience over several race tracks through the career.
The five outings of the current season have not brought forward anything impressive or extra ordinary, but the improvement is evident.
From ninth position in the seasonal debut to the second score in the most recent outing has reflected the devoted efforts of the connections.
The six-year-old bay mare out of, Strat’s Quest, settled as the runner-up in the Book Your Christmas Party At Kempton Handicap (Division II) on 26th September, 2012 at Kempton over six furlongs.
She was riding with jockey, Neil Callan, and her efforts were indicated through the keen pursuit that she maintained almost throughout the track distance. Her devotion started to fade when she had to race through the final furlong, but could not match the
speed of the rival, Demoiselle Bond.
The favourite entry defeated her by the margin of 1 ¼ lengths.
The ground conditions have switched from standard to soft which should make the trip easier for the P. Banfield bred. The distance too is familiar, and the 4 to 1 entry will navigate through the track distance with jockey, Darryll Holland.
She will not find any considerable level of competition in the field, but will need to look out for the six-year-old bay mare, Athaakeel.
Almutawakel’s daughter won the Chepstow Annual Members Handicap (Division II) on 27th August, 2012 at Chepstow race course over six furlongs.
With jockey, Darren Egan, onboard, she remained strong in the final furlong, and was in command of the concluding strides, defeating Greyemkay by ¾ of a length.
She will race with the same jockey, and the duo will take flight from the second stall.
She is backed by 10 to 1 odds.
