Leesa Grundy beats Su Ching Ong in first round at 2012 Australian Closed Championships Sydney
Leesa Grundy, one of the most talented players in Australia, showed her impressive class as she played with impressive precision and overpowered her compatriot Su Ching Ong in Women’s Singles first round at the 2012 Australian Closed Championships Sydney
on Wednesday, August 29, in Australia.
The un-seeded Leesa showed a strong performance against Su Ching as she employed all of her skills and remained successful in earning a convincing victory that pushed her into the second round.
The in-form Leesa had to stretch to her limit to produce better form to win the first game. But she played remarkable game in the following set and comfortably took it to end the match in straight sets by taking just 25 minutes.
On the other hand, Su Ching gave a good fight in opening set of this contest but she failed to prove her worth in the ending points. In the following set, she failed to maintain her spirited run on court and crashed out without winning any game.
Leesa played dominating badminton as she took initiative by working well at net and constructed rallies to build pressure on her rival but she failed to create a reasonable gap until the end of opening half as her rival was also in tremendous form.
Both shuttlers continued playing in the similar fashion after the mid-game interval as they did not miss any chance to earn points until the score reached at 20-20.
At this stage, Leesa played a few impressive shots by manipulating the loopholes of her rival and finished off the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second set, Leesa put up better show as she remained successful in building up a reasonable lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Leesa showed no respect to her rival and extended her lead on score board as she played positive and aggressive badminton and easily ended up the set with a huge 21-15 score on the board.
The in-form Leesa sealed off victory by winning the match in two sets with a superb score of 22-20 and 21-15.
