Leeview Jet rockets to new national record
Leeview Jet set a new Irish national record time at Drumbo Park Saturday night by winning the Tennent’s Gold Cup Final with a time of 27.88 seconds. He also became only the second hound to run a 525 yard
race in under 28 seconds.
Catunda Harry held the previous national record, and was the first hound to break the 28 second barrier in a 525 yard race. His mark of 27.99 was set in 2007 at Limerick
In the first round of the Tennent’s Cup, Leeview set a track record time of 28.21, but Moral Duty bested that time a few races later with a mark of 28.08. Leeview had chances to put himself back on top
in his quarter-final and semi-final Tennent’s Cup races, but recorded times of 28.13 and 28.19 respectively in those two races. Leeview now holds four of the fastest six race times over 525 yards at Drumbo Park with all four times coming in this year’s Tennent’s
Cup.
In Saturday’s final, Leeview looked as good as any hound could, bolting out of trap two and posting a split of 16.01 before winning the race by eight lengths over Ballycanal Chief. Chief’s time was 28.44.
Taking third in the historic race was Cals Patron with a time of 28.51. Toberadora Holly finished in fourth place, Cumann Carling in fifth, and Ashley Agger in sixth.
Leeview has one of the highest winning percentages of all greyhounds. He has won 21 of his past 29 races, earning 14,575 euros in those races. He also finished in the top three in four of those eight losses.
Leeview is still a young racer, born in January 2008 to Tucks Mein and Between The Two. He is owned by Brenda and Mary Delaney, and trained by Graham Holland.
