Left fielder Willie Harris hopes to be part of Cincinnati Reds – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ left fielder Willie Harris expressed his hope on Thursday, March 01, that he will be part of a winning team and organisation. Willie Harris who signed a Minor League contract with the Reds is counting on the opportunities to get his
name slated for the team.
The veteran was previously a player representing the New York Mets. However, the deal early this year might pave the way for him to bat for the Cincinnati Reds as well. What distinguishes this player is the characteristic versatility that has punctuated
his performance throughout the career.
Now that he is looking forward to the upcoming season whereby he can be part of the Reds, he thinks it is the manager Dusty Baker who rightly utilises the bench.
“Dusty is a manager who really utilizes his bench. That was an attraction [for] me," said Harris, who would earn $800,000 this season if he makes the team. "These guys are planning on winning, and I want to be part of a winning team and organization."
Willie Harris had started his career in 2001 and played for a number of teams; chief among whom were the Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox.
Harris’ presence in the team at this point in time serves a great purpose as well. The fact that the Reds can safely rely on his expertise, especially when the team do not have many left-handed options, makes him all the more favourite for the team.
The player, on the other hand is, determined to show his class. "You never know how things will pan out," Harris said. "I want to come here and show them my character, and I really don't care about having a great spring. I know who I am as a player, but
it would definitely help.”
In 1021 games that he has played so far since the start of his career, he has maintained an average of .240 at 2397 at-bats, scoring 210 RBIs and 360 runs. It will not be long before he resurges to demonstrate his excellence.
