Left handed lady looking to buy set of clubs to learn how to golf with.?

I've been to the driving range once. I found an inexpensive set of really cute 'hope' clubs. I like them because they benefit cancer (plus they're pink!) they're about $200 for the whole set plus bag, so I can't imagine them to be great clubs...but does it really matter at this level?

Any suggestions to purchasing a decent set (I don't have much money to spend on it though) to learn on would be much appreciative!

thanks!

  1. Those will fit you fine as a beginner. Once you get into the game more and get into your groove, you can upgrade.

My wife is a lefty and she is still playing with a 300.00 set. The only thing we change was that she found a Ping putter she loved. So, we upgraded with that.

  2. No, at this point, there is no benefit to you in spending $800-$1300 on a new set of clubs, especially since you don't know if you'll be sticking with the game.

Buy that $200 set and practice for a few months.  Learn positions, balance, timing, tempo, etc., and see if golf is really something you wish to pursue.

If you find out you have special skills or great desire and passion, then lay out the big bucks for a really good set.

  3. wow, you're really a rare one!! This set that you're looking at for $200 are they for a lefty? If so, that is not bad for a starter set for you. After you purchase the set sign up for a couple of lesson as well. if you haven't give up on playing golf by the summer end you haven't lost much in buying that set of clubs. Once you feel that you're going to stay with it and your skills are improving, then you can start saving for a better set of clubs. good luck and have lots of fun...

  4. There are different theories to buying clubs, you can either buy really cheap clubs, most of which are inconsistent throughout the bag (your 5iron might go just as long as your 8iron).  But just to learn it wont be a problem.  If you decide that you are really into golf, you will probably get another set when you get "better".  So it really comes down to how serious you are about playing.  If you think this is a long term deal, you should just buy the expensive set and you can get used to them and not have to change feelwise.  On top of that you will not have to waste that extra $200 dollars on the "beginner" set.  But if money isnt an issue and you still arent sure about the game, you should go with the $200 set and if you like it upgrade later in your career
