Question:

Left shoulder checks?

I have my driving test in about 2 weeks and I'm confused about left shoulder checks.

I know that i should do this when:

- parallel parking

- changing lanes to the left

- pulling out from the curb

But what about left turns at intersections? Should I do a left shoulder check there too? What about at intersections with stop lights and everything?

  1. It's always a good practice to check left and right shoulder checks before pulling out in or changing lanes while driving because of other drivers. Yes I would check left and right shoulder checks while driving at all times because you never know what's behind you coming out of no where and if it's an emergency vehicle sometimes you don't see them until it's too late. Your doing a good job driving this way, and there should be more drivers like us.

  2. Simple answer.....when driving, your head should be on a swivel. always be aware of whats around you, and that means in all directions. Even if you are at a controlled intersection, and the light turns green, you should be looking in both directions more than once before you go.  Never fully trust your mirrors, always physically look over your shoulder.

And get in the habit of a routine mirror check while driving, Check rearview  and side mirrors regularly, its amazing how fast something can sneak up on you. Good luck on your test.

  3. Very simple, always.

  4. yes, I would do a left shoulder check if making a left turn at an intersection.........others have it bad pulling up into your blind side trying to make that left turn also, after they see you are already there. If it's a left turn at a stop light.....I would just follow normal routine.....but be on the look out for those that may not or don't care if you have the light.
