Left wing Taylor Hall to get fixed shoulder injury as Edmonton Oilers done with playoff run-NHL News
The Edmonton Oilers have backed left wing, Taylor Hall, to undergo a procedure on his left shoulder to fix a lingering injury during the offseason.
Oilers, already out of the playoff run, are not going to be affected at all by the player’s absence as the season is virtually over for them.
So, there is no other better time for the player than the current moment to get rid of the problem he has been carrying on since his junior hockey league time.
The player is expected to take about six months for recovery and rehabilitation and could only be available for the squad now in the 2012-2013 season.
It will not be a costly decision for the player and the team, who considers him to be an integral part of the squad in the longer run.
Oilers’ coach, Tom Renney, said it was great time for the player to get his problem fixed as he was crucial to the team’s future.
He said:
"We're doing the right thing. The most important thing is the future of the organization and he's a big part of that."
The official confirmed that the player’s recovery was going to take five to six months and he can be welcomed back to the team next season.
Since the player is yet to have the surgery, the question of recovery timeline was not on the mind of the team’s official. In any case, it remains a season-ending scenario.
Hall, who was inducted as a first-round pick in 2010, had been struggling with a concussion problem since March this year. He was shut down by the team due to a labrum tear, which has lingered since his junior hockey league days.
He said:
"Four years now. I injured it in junior and it's been wearing away. I've been playing with a pretty bad shoulder for most of this year and I'm excited to see what I can do after it's fixed. It's not the way I envisioned my career starting,
but I hope to stay healthy after this and be a good Oiler for a long time."
The player has played 61 games for Oilers this year, and has ended up with the record of 27 goals and 53 points. The performance is slightly better than the past year when he played as a rookie.
His last year’s performance includes 22 goals and 42 points. In total, he played 65 games.
As of the latest, Oilers have already out of the playoff contention and are at the second lowest position on the points table in the Western Conference.
Columbus Blue Jackets are the only team behind them in the conference with 57 points.
