Question:

Leftists want women to control their bodies, why do they object to parents controlling a child's education?

Anyone else find this logic to be a bit fuzzy? The left will scream to the limits of their lungs that women have the right to control their own bodies. OK, fine. But then they fight tooth and nail every attempt to give educational choice to parents, every voucher program that allows parents to spend their hard earned tax dollars as they see fit, etc.

  1. Interesting take. I look forward to their excuses...I mean answers.

  2. There is plenty of hypocrisy on both sides.

Religious Conservative - Get government off peoples back..........but you can't do drugs , say what you want on TV...etc.

More proof that both sides only agree with the idea of freedom when it applies to their ideas

  3. Your logic isn't fuzzy. You pegged them about right. They need control of the schools so the can indoctrinate your kids to their way of thinking.

  4. Excellent question.  I guess the difference is that once the child has survived pregnancy, he or she must become a good little submissive citizen and learn to preach of the dangers of second hand smoke and global warming.  If parents are allowed to make educational choices for their children, they might become independent thinkers who will dissent from the liberal party line and actually know how to read, write, solve problems, think critically, etc.

  5. Parents DO control their child's education.  You are free to send your child to a private school.  You're also free to pay for it.

Aren't the Right constantly complaining about "assistance programs"?  How is this different?

  6. Ohhh this is an interesting question indeed. star for you

  7. I doubt that any liberal is trying to control education since being liberal means just that "freedom to choose." Control is more of a right wing policy. Where is your documentation?

I had a boyfriend once who tried to control me. but I dumped him. I wonder if he is still living with his mother?

    Peace

  8. Because they want to educate your children into their beliefs and not your beliefs because they always think the parents are stupid and always wrong.

They want to destroy the family which is the core unit of society.. how much better to do so by promoting abortions and allowing divorce, unnatural marriages and insisting upon the only education out there has to be there thought process's.. congratulations your finally getting it!

  9. Because vouchers simply aren't a long term solution.  The school I used to work in received voucher students due to its success and all of a sudden we became overcrowded and underfunded because of the sudden influx of students.

    All schools need equal funding.

  10. Great point Bill It's as if they have a right to control our children if we and they want them If not put a fork in their heads and flush them down the drain

  11. There is not an aborted fetus union pulling their strings.

  12. This describes some leftists or all leftists? What about Pro-choice rightists who are against school vouchers?

  13. Here are some "leftists" arguments against vouchers:

A voucher system weaken public schools by taking away funding and resources from public schools.

Most people who would use the vouchers already have children in private schools.  This was borne out in a study done of Arizona private schools.  This means basically that those who can afford private schools would be given a tax break.

Private schools would become more selective in the students that they accept, so that poor, disabled, or less academically qualified students would not be accepted for admission.

Teacher's associations have been opposed to vouchers.

Who would know better than a teacher?

The libertarian critique is that a voucher system would give the government more control over private schools.

Those that advocate a separation of church and state say that if private schools become commonplace, then private schools will become more and more like public schools.

Isn't the conservative approach to take personal responsibility for one's actions?  If that's the case, then why make people pay taxes to fund other people's children's education, whether through public schools or vouchers?  Do you regard education as a privilege or a right?  If it is a right, then where do you draw the line?  Why isn't a college education a right?

And, while we're at it, shouldn't public schools be funded based on the number of students, rather than the tax basis of where the schools are built?  Is it fair that rich kids get a better education in better funded schools than poor kids?

So here's a question for you:

Many mothers get abortions because they feel that they would be unable to be able to take care of a child, yet rightists "fight tooth and nail" any kind of program, such as prenatal care, parenting classes, day care, or preschool programs that would make mothers more motivated and capable of caring for their babies.  Why is it that by opposing such social programs that rightists increase the number of abortions?
