Legal Advice please.

have a friend that had a bail bond set for his release. He has a first offense and he was 5 minutes late for court due to his car messing up. (I had to give him a ride and I swear it was like 2 minutes after the set time for court) He got inside and no one was in the court and he called his lawyer (MInd the fact that he called his lawyer while we were on our way to let him know he was on his way I know they could care less but h**l whatever)So his lawyer said that they put a warrent out for his arrest. He is in court mind you so he "turned himself in" so he is in jail now. What happened to the bail bond that his family posted for him. His dad used his house as collateral. But now his bail is twice as much. So I would like to know if there is anything his family/friends can do. Also any legal advice would gladly be appreciated.

  1. Tuff break for sure...bail is to guarantee  defendant appearance in court..if he or she is not there then bail is forfeited. Its to bad your reason was legitimate so many just skip out, and this is why the good have to pay for the bad.

  2. The only thing you can do is to talk to the judge. This is why any time I have had to stand before the "Man" I get there at least an hour before and will call the court several days before to make sure that everybody is on the same page. In the eyes of the law, one min. late is as bad as never showing up at all. That should play into the judges mind, the fact that he turned himself in. Most of the time the judge will leave you in jail for a time to make a lasting impression so next time...your friend will be on time. Hard lesson to learn but one that will stick in the minds of everybody that knows your friend. Also, remember, Lawyers make mistakes and in the long run, it's your butt on the line and not his or hers

  3. I can't believe his lawyer was so calloused about the situation.  Is there anyway that you can talk to the judge maybe he can do something.
