Question:

Legal Advise (Minor in Possession case)?

This passed Saturday night I was caught at an under-aged drinking party and was cited with an M.I.P. (minor in possession). I'm 17 years old and this is my first offense on my record for anything. I was scheduled to be in court on the next Friday for my sentencing. However on Monday I was pulled over for speeding (80 in a 65) because I was late for my baseball game and was in a hurry. My problem that I'm facing is whether I should pay this ticket off before court or wait until afterwards.

My thinking is that if my judge looks at my record and sees that I am clean other than my MIP, he will let me off easier than if I have a speeding ticket. However, if I by some way get sentenced to probation I'm afraid this ticket will violate it and I will be in serious trouble. Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I would definitely advise you pay the speeding ticket as soon as possible. The judge will appreciate the fact you at least APPEAR to give a flying c**p about your misbehavior.

I don't think you'll be sentenced to probation simply for MIP, it seems rather harsh, but perhaps. Regardless, the judge you see about the MIP is going to have your record in front of him and he's going to see the speeding ticket. Because of this, I think it's best to have it handled before you see him. If he's going to cut you any slack, it's only going to be because you're being responsible and handling your mistakes.

Can you tell me what you think the benefit of NOT paying the ticket would be? I'm slightly confused here...I mean, the ticket is there whether you pay it or not and I wouldn't imagine you would get in MORE trouble for taking care of it.

  2. quit getting caught dummy

  3. PAY THE TICKET he want look at a speeding ticket no more than a minor traffic violation i wouldn't sweat the mip to much neither any way all i got when i was 16 was 6 months unsuper vised probation and if they appoint you a lawyer have him ask the court that so you want have a probation officer but you better stay clean and straight but it does depend on the judge in any case and the fact that you haven't been in trouble before goes in your favor it would be good for your parents to be there for you too
